The Short Story Written As The Longer Version of…
I told you that this is where you can read this. So here’s the long story of how it started. It’s my story summed up into as few words as I can, so you don’t get bored. My blog is titled Mixtapes & Marketing. Have no fear, there is an entire blog dedicated to why I named it this. But for now…
As you know by now, my name is Meg. That’s who my website is named after, ME!! A few years ago, I took a leap with fear. I decided to put faith in myself and my creative journey. When you believe in yourself and your skills, it is surprising what can happen. I am still completely shocked that this IS what happened with me.
Here’s How It Started!
A few years ago, I was in retail. Yes retail. I loved my job, the people I met and surprisingly what I got to do on a day-to-day basis. I had a leader always ask me “What I wanted?” I struggled constantly with the answer to that question. Look, I had the opportunity to work my way up from the beginning with 2 prominent brands.
I oversaw one of the highest volume-highest profile locations in 2 markets. I was a District Training Manager and District Visual Point Person for 8+ stores during my run. I should have wanted the next step. I should have fought harder, but I didn’t because I didn’t want it.
Through my time I learned so many skills that have taught me to be the strongest leader and even a strong marketer. I know what it takes to lead a business and build it to be the best it can be.
One of my favorite parts of the job was advocating a voice and being the best Brand Ambassador. I trained my teams and leaders to do the same. My tone and voice does represent who I am, because that’s how I lead.
I have the skills; I know my talents. I can build a business from the ground up. I can turn it into being “what everyone talks about.”
As much as I loved my retail path, like I said I did. There was something missing. I needed more. I needed more creativity. I needed something more to be excited about. I took a chance. I left. I left everything I built for myself behind and put myself first.
I went back to school and signed up for a fabulous bootcamp. I cannot even tell you how fabulous it was. I learned everything I know now that makes me a strong digital marketer. Through this bootcamp I learned that I already had the talent to be a strong digital marketer. I just didn’t know it.
I enjoy the creative side of marketing, who doesn’t? I also enjoy analyzing every little thing and picking apart every number. I love turning it into something beautiful to be the best.
I have a mentor (Gerald Buckley) that uses the phrase “Google loves Google.” Well, I want to make it so that “Google loves your business too.”
So welcome to my little corner. My blog. My thoughts. My Mixtape. Let’s learn right alongside each other. I want to share with you the best things about digital marketing to make you the best you can be. Plus, I don’t do a very good job at keeping secrets!
OK, so I guess this really isn’t a long story, just a little longer than the short version on my #meetMeg page 😉
Thanks for listening!
